Everyone has their preferences when it comes to cooking oils.  Different recipes may call for different types of oils as well. But honestly, does the average consumer really think about their cooking oil? I’d venture to say many don’t. Until the last few years, I certianly didn’t.  In my low-fat days I remember being urged to use canola oil because it was supposed to be better for you. I’ve since learned quite a bit about nutrition, no thanks to the food pyramid, and canola oil no longer graces my grocery list. I’ve tried a variety of oils and have found some I truly love. Nut oils rank at the top of my favorites list. The flavor they add to dishes is phenomenal and I know without a doubt that I’m feeding my family something that is truly healthy.

Recently I had the chance to try Now’s Organic Macadamia Nut Oil. Oh. Dear. Heaven. I can honestly say this is the first time I’ve opened any oil and just wanted to sit and smell it. It smells wonderful. (Yes, I realize that sniffing cooking oil makes me a weirdo.)  And the taste is distinctly macadamia, where as other oils may just be bland and tasteless.  I’m not saying you want to eat it right out of the bottle, but you can certainly taste the nutty flavor.

I used this macadamia nut oil while cooking some chicken for a recipe. The aroma was heavenly and it added just a hint of nuttiness to the chicken, which I tried before mixing it with the rest of the ingredients. It has a high smoke point (400-450 degrees Fahrenheit) and is made from organically grown, unhybridized and unrefined macadamias. The uses for macadamia nut oil are many.  It’s great in stir fry and, as I mentioned, perfect for cooking chicken and fish. It’s also great for use with vegetables and in salad dressings. You can easily use it anywhere you might use olive oil.  And it has the kind of ingredient list I like – simple, as you’ll see below.

Did you catch that? INGREDIENT. Singular. Now that is awesome.

I’m looking forward to experimenting with various recipes and finding other ways to use this great tasting oil. This is definitely a keeper and I plan to use it often. I give it a full 5 stars.  I can’t find a single thing to complain about, which upon hearing this proclamation made my husband ask if I’d been abducted by pod people.

Disclosure: I was provided this product free of charge in order to review it. It in no way affected my opinion of the product.

I’m guessing it is more expensive than most other cooking oils? How does it compare with the cost of coconut oils? Is it much more expensive or only slightly more? :-) Thanks!

    Hi Kitty,
I certainly understand low-carbing on a budget! :) While certainly more than canola oil and most olive oils, compared to coconut oil it’s less expensive. Nutiva Coconut oil is around $15 for a 15 oz jar. Now Macadamia Nut Oil is around $10 for 16 oz. We had a recipe once that called for peanut oil. Hubby brought home a small jug of the stuff for $25. I about fell over. It’s tasty stuff, but I save it for special recipes since it’s so pricey.
