• Amazing New Recipe from George Stella

Posted on January 16, 2012 by in blog, Events, Recipes and Reviews

George Stella, master of low-carb cooking, and his family were guests on the Dr. Oz show recently. George said ahead of time the Dr. Oz was very courteous and didn’t scoff at what they had to say. This gave me hope that it would go better than the Gary Taubes segment. I was pleasantly surprised. I recommend checking it out here. Be forewarned that you’ll have to wade through some diet company ads in the process, but it’s worth it.

Other than the amazing inspiration that is the Stella Family, you’ll also see some scrumptious looking recipes. All are linked on Dr. Oz’s website as well, so you can give them a try for yourself. Tonight I made my family the Anaheim Shrimp Scampi.

    I’m.

    In.

    Love.

This recipe shot right to the top of my favorite meals list. Bite me low-fat dinners!

    Here’s a photo of tonight’s mind-numbingly good meal:

In case you don’t see the link, here’s the recipe (which includes the scampi butter recipe). The only difference between his recipe and what you see here is that I couldn’t find Asiago cheese. I substituted that for a parmesan and Asiago shredded blend (thus the “rice” looking stuff on the dish).

Go forth, eat, and shrink like the hot mamas and papas you are.

I always get worried making shrimp. I swear it seems like my shrimp dishes are always YUCK and I LOVE shrimp and eat loads of it while in Florida. Does it taste pretty close to traditional Shrimp Scampi?

I think it was even better than traditional scampi. Very easy to make.

Amy, I make this recipe all the time; George featured it years ago on his Food Network TV show “Low Carb and Lovin’ It.”  It is truly delicious and I am so glad he got a good reception from Dr. Oz, considering what Dr. Oz tried to do to Gary Taubes last year.  In fact, the biggest boos and catcalls on last year’s Low Carb Cruise occurred every time Dr. Oz’s name was mentioned.

Can’t wait to meet you and the family on this year’s cruise.  Keep up the great work.  I love getting your emails.

Yeah, we were that way the year before when Ornish was brought up. LOL Looking forward to meeting you too Sharon!

Amy, glad you enjoyed the recipe… Your photograph looks great!  I must admit it’s still very weird to see someone making one of my father’s dishes in their house… sometimes I forget that tons of other people are making the food we eat!  -Christian Stella

Thanks Christian! I appreciate you stopping by! You all looked fabulous on the show and we all appreciate your sharing your story and your Dad’s amazing cooking talents. :)

Down here in NE Florida you can usually find “Mayport shrimp” at the supermarket – local, fresh-caught shrimp from the fishing community of Mayport just up the road. Wild caught, fresh, never frozen. The other day I decided to treat myself to some at the supermarket to have for my dinner.  I cooked the shrimp in the wine and herb broth recommended by Julia Child in her “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” and then ate it with garlic butter and sliced stuffed olives. It was a lovely meal. But I wish I’d seen this recipe before then. Now I have to buy some more Mayport shrimp to try it out!

So jealous you can get fresh shrimp! We have to settle for the frozen stuff, being so inland and all. But this recipe is the bees knees… which is good despite the fact I’m pretty sure bees don’t actually have knees.
