Wow… it’s 2010. Can you believe it? We’ve already gone through a decade in this new millennium! I have to admit I’m excited about all the new prospects 2010 brings with it. Many people had an awful 2009 and I hope that this new year looks promising for them. Last year could have been worse for us, so I refuse to complain much, but it also could have been better.
Looking back on 2009 I realize one major blessing that trumps all else – I had my family and friends there beside me the whole time. Really, what else could a person ask for than the love and support of others, no matter what you are going through.
My husband and children, who are my world, stuck with me through thick and thin. When things looked their worst, my husband was my rock to lean upon. He reminded me daily of his love for me. Despite my many shortcomings he has supported me. My children give me immense joy – and despite my being the adult, I think they teach me as much as I teach them.
My other family members were there for me when I needed them. They loved me as only family members can. Cheering me on when things went well and giving me a shoulder to lean on when things weren’t so great.
And my friends… wow. What can I say about my friends. To start: This year I became friends with an amazing group of ladies. I would have never dreamed that what started out as a small group with a common love of writing would turn into what can only be called a true sisterhood. I can’t believe we have all become so close. These women have made me laugh when what I really wanted to do was cry. When one of us did need to cry, we all cried together and afterwards dried each others tears. They are without a doubt the most amazing women I’ve ever known and I am thankful daily for the blessing of each of their friendships.
Then there are my friends I keep in touch with online. Some I’ve had the pleasure of meeting face to face, others are too far away to meet personally and yet still so dear to my heart. Some I grew up with and am so glad we still keep in touch, even if it is just on facebook or twitter. Some are photographers who have blessed me with advice and knowledge. Others are low-carbers who have inspired and encouraged me throughout my lifestyle. Some are writers who simply love talking shop and seeking new opportunities.
And last, but certainly not least, I am thankful for you dear reader. With out you I’d have no reason to play with this blog. Some of you have never made yourself known to me. Others of you have popped in now and then to say hi. And then others have been so vocal that we’ve gotten to know each other well and I’m proud to call you my friends. Whatever the case, I’m thankful for all of you and I’m looking forward to what 2010 has in store for us all.
When things look their worst, take a good long look around you… at the people that surround you, that fulfill your life. If you have even one good friend or loved one you can count on, you are blessed indeed.
