• Low-Carb in the limelight

Posted on January 20, 2011 by in blog, Low-Carb, News

Just in case you haven’t heard about it yet, Reader’s Digest has recently taken positive notice of low-carb living.

In the February 2011 edition of Reader’s Digest, the cover story is titled Eat This, Lose Weight The New Science of Dieting. Of course when I saw the accompanying photo, I squealed loud enough that everyone in the store was staring. Or maybe it was the victory dance I did that caught their eye. Anyway… here’s the exciting cover:

    Eat that TIME magazine!

Lisa Davis conducted this 10 page interview with Gary Taubes, which talks about his latest book Why We Get Fat – and What To Do About It.  They discuss the problems with the current dietary advice, Gary’s thoughts on exercise, and much more. You’ll even get 5 tips to get started on a low-carb program.

If this isn’t enough to endear you a little more towards RD, they also have those 5 tips available online for free, which was written by our beloved Dr. Eric Westman.

I applaud you Reader’s Digest. Thanks for taking a step that so many other publications seem to run away from. You’ll be remembered as one of the first major media outlets to share the truth.

My wife was reading that to me this afternoon and I asked, “what book is that you’re reading?” She said Reader’s Digest. I was in a state of disbelief! She continued to read and I was even more amazed. This is great news! Woo-Hoo! Ron, aka The Former Donut Junkie.

The “New” Science! Didn’t Atkins come out in like… 1972? Ah well, the more people who know about it, the better off the’ll be, as long as they don’t believe that they can’t do without the millions of ‘frankenfoods’. Health is easy.

It is shocking, isn’t it Ron? After so many years of seeing the mainstream media bash low-carb, it takes a while to register when you realize they are endorsing it.

I know. There’s nothing new about it. But the media and health experts aren’t about to admit they were wrong, so they have to make this sounds like something that was just discovered. I agree that it’s doesn’t really matter as long as the truth finally is spread to the masses.

I seriously only read Reader’s Digest when I forget to bring my Nook to the doctor’s office…but had to pick up this e-version (on my Nook, of course) and was pleasantly surprised that they did a nice job with it and didn’t distort too much.

Nice. If only we could get more magazines/newspapers/media in general to recognize the science.

Just found you, and hope to come back often. I’ve recently started the low carb lifestyle after reading Gary Taubes’ books!
