I’ve spent the past week recovering from a severe attack of some kind of virus. It waylaid me big time and my poor throat suffered the consequences. Thankfully I had no shortage of warm drinks to soothe my tortured throat and still allow me to eat healthy. I’ll admit I mostly survived on chicken broth, but a body can only take so much of that before you want something with a little more flavor. This seemed like a good time to try Holy Cow Cocoa Mix. I love a good cup of hot chocolate anytime, and when you are sick cocoa can be great comfort food. So following the directions on the package I made myself a cup of chocolate goodness.
My tastebuds may just be over sensitive, but my first thought was it was really sweet… almost too sweet. I tried it again after my tastes had returned to normal and again it seemed overly sweet. I realize this is a personal preference kind of thing, so I’m not knocking off points for that. I do think next time I will thin it down with more water than is recommended to help tone the sweetness down a bit. It’s simple to make and mixes very well. The end product had no clumps what-so-ever. It even comes with a cute little whisk to mix it with, which worked just fine for this product.
The taste was good and certainly worked well to kill my chocolate craving. The ingredient list is a bit long, but I see nothing to really complain about. I’m especially happy there are no sugar alcohols listed. Compared to other mixes on the market, Holy Cow Cocoa Mix is certainly a carb bargin at 2 net carbs. It’s also a great deal for those watching their calories or fat.

With 20 servings per container and no polydextrose or gluten, Holy Cow Cocoa Mix is a pretty good product. I’m looking forward to trying it again, this time in a cafe mocha as recommended on the package. I give this product 4 1/2 stars and plan to enjoy it often this spring as we bounce back and forth between unusually hot and unusually cold temperatures. Like I said, I’ll use any excuse to drink hot cocoa.
