Blood Test Results

For those who are worried about how low carb eating affects your health, here are the results from a blood test I had taken 1 year after being on Atkins. I do not have any before numbers to share with you, and I really wish I did. I can only guess how bad they had to have been! The point is that my numbers are perfect! No matter what my numbers were before, low-carb has not harmed me any way.

  • Glucose: 79 (best in range of 65-109)
  • Total Cholesterol: 149 (best under 200)
  • HDL Cholesterol: 52 (best 40 or higher)
  • LDL Cholesterol: 88 (best under 130)
  • Triglycerides: 47 (best under 100)
  • CHOL/HDLC Ratio: 2.9 (best under 4.4)

I could go on with my white and red blood cells, calcium, potassium, etc. ALL of them are in the perfect range. I am clearly not missing out on any vital nutrients by excluding sugar, flour and other processed junk from of my menu.

After only 2 months on low-carb John had his blood tested again. His triglycerides are improving dramatically! In fact, we were so excited about his tg’s that we pretty well forgot to ask about the rest. As I mentioned before his tg’s were over 400 when originally tested, so we were relieved to hear they are now at 167! His doctor is very happy. His cholesterol did go up a tad, but the doctor said it was normal for that to happen the first few months.
